Flavours of Lake Como

Fresh fish from the lake is central to the local cuisine of Como. You will find delicious fish dishes on most menus such as "trota in cartoccio con verdure e finferli" (trout cooked in foil with vegetables and finferli mushrooms). A bottle of Sorsasso di Tremezzo, a special local wine, is the perfect accompaniment.

Other dishes include a winter favourite "miascia", similar to "panettone", made with apples and raisins.

North of the lake, as you head into the mountains, you will find many typical dishes from the Valtellina valley. The dishes here tend to be based on meat and cheese. "Tagliata di manzo con rucola" Sliced beef with fresh rocket is another local speciality.
