Umbria
Known as the green heart of Italy, Umbria is one of the most romantic regions in the country. Its steep verdant valleys are a patchwork of sunflowers, olives and stunning hilltop towns. Perfect for weddings, Umbria is the place where a medieval castle can be yours for the day.
Umbria is within a few hours' drive of International Airports in Rome. Chartered flights and budget airlines also fly to Perugia, less than an hour away.
Some of the best locations for weddings and honeymoons are near Umbria's finest towns. Assisi, Perugia, Todi and Spoleto each make a magical focal point. Perugia, famous for its chocolate, is a buzzing Renaissance city perched on a hill. Wide streets and vast piazzas are edged with beautiful "palazzi". In July, the city rocks to the sounds of the International Jazz Festival. For sleepier surroundings, Todi is one of Umbria's best kept secrets. Cobbled streets are lined with imposing architecture. Nearby Spello has a wonderful flower festival in June.
Over 150km from the coast, Umbrians head for the beach at Lake Trasimeno. Ringed by hills, the huge lake has sweeping sandy shores. Villa del Lago, exclusive to Luna Rosa, is perched above. A dreamy wedding location, you can sail into the sunset, passing romantic islands. Alternatively, take in the view from a hot air balloon. Watersports are in abundance. Canyoning and caving are also organised from here.
Away from the lake, the town of Spoleto has a strong cosmopolitan vibe. An ancient amphitheatre stages a vibrant summer Arts Festival. The cathedral is simply jaw dropping with a 16th-century fortress to crown it all.
Many of our properties are hidden away in the natural beauty of the Tiber valley. Relatively unknown, the area is peppered with medieval castles, churches and museums. There are more art works in this region than anywhere else in Central Italy. Art lovers can discover Luca Signorelli, Piero della Francesca and Rafaello.
Surrounded by olive groves, the hillside town of Assisi is the birthplace of St Francis. The heart of Christian spirituality, the Giotto frescoes in the cathedral are spectacular. Overlooking it all, is the imposing Rocca Maggiore fortress.
Simple rural delights include olive picking in October around Trevi and Montefalco. Or for local colour, join the medieval festival of Bevagna, celebrated every June.
